ferry crossing where the Champlain Bridge was.
Fort Ticonderoga is located at 100 Fort Road on the southwestern shore of Lake Champlain, opposite Vermont, in the 6-million acre Adirondack Park in upstate New York.
You are traveling on one of the great waterway travel corridors of the past millennium. Today, most visitors reach Fort Ticonderoga via exit 28 on US Interstate 87 (the Adirondack Northway), the principal north-south conduit for travel and commerce in the region, or via picturesque local Routes 9-N and 22 inland from Lake George and Lake Champlain.
From US Interstate 87 (North or South) – Take Exit 28 ("Ticonderoga Ferry") onto NY Routes 22/74 East and follow 18 miles; turn left onto Route 74 East at the flashing light, follow 1 mile to fort entrance on right.
From NY Route 9-N (North or South) – Follow 9-N to the traffic circle in the town of Ticonderoga, turn east onto Montcalm Street and continue 3 miles through 2 stoplights and 1 flashing light, across Route 22, to the fort entrance on right.
From Vermont – Follow state Route 74 West to the Ticonderoga Ferry (toll) at Shoreham; after crossing Lake Champlain, the main entrance to the Fort will be 1 mile ahead on the left.

Each ferry can hold over 40 cars and can accommodate trucks and buses. The crossing is just 3 minutes on the water and it gives a whole new perspective to the histories area. You can now see the Rodin sculpture in the magnificent Crown Point Lighthouse and watch the progress on the replacement bridge. Plus, they have just discovered the ruins of a 1730 French Fort on the Vermont side amidst all the construction!
